10. How to measure for your new carpet
Unless you have experience measuring for carpet, never use your own measurements when ordering carpet. Properly measuring for carpet is not as simple as it seems. There are some definite basics to it but a lot depends on how the installer you have chosen to install your carpet is going to lay the carpet out. When measuring for carpet it is best to let the person you have trusted to install your carpet to measure for it. This way there will not be any extra carpet left or even worse not enough carpet to complete the job. If you are looking for a rough estimate of the carpet quantity needed, you can follow the steps below:
  • Measure the longest point and the widest point (not forgetting to go into doorways or recess areas)

  • Keep in mind, the two Packer carpets have different widths (13'6" and 12') and pattern matchs (13.5"x13" and 6.5"x6")

  • Meaning that if your room is not as wide as 13'6" or 12' roll width (depending on the style selected), you will need to use the roll width, and if the room is wider than the roll width that you will need to order additional material to cover the remainder of the room

  • Once you have found the two dimensions of the room, multiply them together to come up with your square footage.

  • When talking to the sales representative on the phone, have your dimensions drawn out and available in order to fax over, as that is how we will approximate the total footage needed if your room is a different size other than square.
If you are in search of a certified installer in your area to measure your room and give you an estimate for installation, visit www.carpetone.com or www.cfiinstallers.com.

11. Who moves the furniture?
Although most installers will remove furnishings from the room, you should remove all breakable items--like vases, lamps, collectibles, and dishes--before the installer arrives. You should detach wiring from TVs, VCRs, stereos, and computers. You should also clear desktops, tabletops, and bookshelves. There is a charge for furniture removal if needed.

12. What if my doors no longer close after the installation is complete?
Some doors may need trimming to accommodate the thickness of your new flooring. Doors that do not open and close properly due to the new floor may be removed during installation, and it will be up to you to have the doors cut and re-hung.

13. What about wood moldings?
It may be necessary to remove moldings and reattach them during installation. Because some moldings, particularly quarter round, are fragile, breakage could occur. If it does, you will be responsible for replacing them. Scratches or nicks to baseboards are also a possibility, and you will be responsible for the touchups.

14. Do I have to remove my old carpet prior to installation?
The person to remove the existing carpet needs to be determined prior to the day of installation, whether it be yourself or the installers. Removing and hauling the old carpet and padding away will require an additional fee.

15. Will there be dust in my home once the carpet is removed?
Please remember that installation procedures such as removal of existing flooring will produce dust in your home that may not be contained only to the room in which it is being removed from. We recommend that you close doors to adjacent rooms to eliminate dust particles from floating throughout your home.

16. Is there a coordinating carpet to the Premium carpet style that you can recommend for installation on stairs or to use as a border?
Yes, we recommend a carpet style name "Colours.com", color #021 Oyster (beige) or #064 Mallard (green). Please contact H.J. Martin and Son, Inc. for further details and to see a sample of this carpet.

17. What is most important to maintaining my new Packers carpet?
First: Vacuum frequently. The most important thing you can do to keep your carpet looking great is to vacuum it thoroughly and frequently, particularly in high traffic areas. Vacuuming helps remove dirt particles which dull the carpet's appearance. Also, use walk-off mats at entrances to minimize dirt particles being tracked onto the carpet and to reduce soil accumulation.

Secondly: It is also very important to have periodic professional cleanings. Professional cleaners know the latest information on carpet construction, carpet care products, and safe, effective cleaning methods to help maintain carpet beauty. We recommend professional cleaning at least every 18 months, using hot water extraction which is more commonly known as steam cleaning.

18. What about the indentations from furniture?
Rearranging your furniture periodically will reduce soiling and wear of carpet patterns and most importantly it will allow the fibers under extreme weight to spring back to their original shape. Vacuuming several times over the affected area will help bring the fiber back to its upright position.

19. How do I effectively clean a spot or stain from the carpet?
Accidents will happen, and because your new Packers carpet is made of nylon most stains can be handled with easy measures. Prompt and careful removal of spots and stains is essential to good carpet care. Immediate action should be taken when spills occur or when they are discovered to reduce the probability of a permanent stain.

For best results:
  1. Always work from the outside of the spill toward the center. Use the blunt edge of a spoon to gently scoop up material.

  2. Apply all solutions and liquids in the order listed on a cleaning chart (see H.J. Martin and Son, Inc. for this chart) to a clean white cloth or white paper towel. Use this wet towel to dampen carpet. Never apply solutions directly to the carpet, never soak the carpet through to the backing.

  3. Blot carefully, always press down using a clean white cloth. NEVER rub the carpet, as this will damage the top surface of the fibers.
